What to expect…
As a Senior Care Assistant, no two days would ever be the same. You would take responsibility for the care home during your shift, which might involve dealing with any emergency situations that arise and would definitely involve handling medication.
You would manage the handover from the Senior Care Assistant on the shift preceding yours and then again at the end of your shift. During your shift, you would lead and direct the other Care staff, assigning tasks to them depending on what needed to be done. As well as directing the Care staff, you would also assist residents with personal care duties, such as bathing, dressing, toileting and incontinence care.
You would take an interest in the residents, helping them to live as full and enjoyable a life as their health permits.
You would help with the running of the home and assist with cleaning communal areas if time permitted, as well as carrying out certain administrative duties, such as updating residents’ care charts.
You would support residents at mealtimes, helping to serve meals and assisting residents to the dining room. You might be asked to join in with our entertainment staff to help with planned activities, such as arts and crafts, or maybe even accompany residents on day trips outside the home.
